Welcome to the new 2024/25 season which will start on Sunday 1st September.
Talent Academy
As part of the new England Hockey Talent System, seventeen clubs across the country have been awarded licenses to deliver a Talent Academy. There will be four additional England Hockey led Talent Academies in year 1 to fill geographical gaps in the Talent Academy network . Reading Hockey is delighted to have been awarded one of the TA licenses covering over 15 Clubs in the South Central Region. For more details see:Talent Development - a new way forward
Junior hockey at Reading
We aim to provide a safe and fun environment where young players from the age of 5 to 18 can learn and enjoy hockey. We are always delighted to have new young people join us. No-one needs to have played hockey before as our sessions cater for all abilities. All that is required is the enthusiasm to want to get active and find out about hockey. We offer 2 taster sessions to players to help them consider whether hockey and Reading is right for them. We can provide hockey sticks for trial sessions and mouth guards are available for sale via the Hungry Hut. On Sundays the Hungry Hut is open for the take-away food and drinks service.
Junior Colts (U12 to U16) have 2 hockey sessions per week. Minis (U8 with min age 5 and U10) have Sunday morning sessions with additional sessions for 10 on Mondays evenings and U8s able to join the Community Session on Thursdays. U18s (Sixth formers) train at the same time as the Under 16 groups. All Juniors (min age 13) and Sixth Formers playing adult hockey are invited to attend their respective Adult General or Performance midweek training. Training times are shown on this page further below.
IMPORTANT NOTICES:
Parents and guardians of children in the U8 and U10 sessions are expected to remain on site throughout the training session (and at matches when matches are permitted to proceed) in case of emergency. Parents and guardians of ages U12 and above are expected to be within 15 minutes (arrival at the pitch side) travel time in case of emergency. It is the responsibility of the parents and guardians to ensure all their membership details for themselves and their children on our members database (pitchero) are current and that they are capable of being contacted during training sessions or matches. This includes all medical and contact details. It is also the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure that their children attend with the appropriate kit to play hockey.
Coaching Sessions
All training sessions are held at our Sonning Lane club. The child’s age on September 1st 2024 dictates which age group they should join.
Coaching Sessions schedule
Coaching Sessions and times may change due to weather conditions and matches.
Please check the news area of this website or colts twitter prior to your session to check the times. Pitch allocations will be shown on the whiteboard on the side of the clubhouse opposite the water pitch.
